I've been meaning to post this. Somewhere in the last two weeks our chickens started laying actual to goodness eggs. You know, the stuff of legends that omelettes and breakfast burritos are made of?
What's the most fascinating to me is that these eggs are so completely different from their store bought counterpart. We purchase cage free, organic eggs from the local grocery store. We cracked one of our eggs next the store bought egg and were so surprised by the difference in yolk color. Our hens laid eggs with such beautiful, dark yellow yolks. It makes the organic eggs from the store look sad by comparison.
And here they are collected in their bowl. Aren't they cute? I love how they vary slightly in color. I do believe we have at least two chickens laying eggs on a regular basis as we're now collecting two eggs a day. Ignore the dark spot - I seem to have a spot on my lens.
Way to go girls!

oh and isnt amazing how much firmer the whites are too?? I still cant have chickens here in town- but I can get them from my friend who's right out of town. even the boys can tell the difference in taste
ReplyDeleteIt's so eggsiting, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteSorry... couldn't resist.
We have 6 gerls and we're getting 4 eggs a day. Which reminds me... I'd better go and make a cake to use some up!
ours have stopped laying for the winter, we keep hoping they'll re-boot soon, we miss these fresh treats!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! We suddenly get 3-4 eggs a day. For a while, we were getting one every few days. I had to BUY eggs! Faints.
ReplyDeleteBut as soon as Winter Soltice hit, they started laying. What a great way to bring in the new year.
