The Green Smoothie Challenge

When I saw my friend Hillary was participating in a Green Smoothie Challenge, courtesy of the Facebook group Green Smoothie Challenge #3 I knew I had to give it a try too.

I've had green smoothies before, but this is the first time I've challenged myself to make them daily for any length of time.

Today, on day 3 I tried something new and threw an avocado into the mix which made it super smooth and creamy.

A side benefit I've discovered to green smoothies, is that it is an excellent way to get my son to drink his vegetables. This challenge couldn't have come at a better time for him nutritionally. More on that tomorrow.

What goes in my green smoothies you may wonder?

My general rule of thumb is 60% fruit and 40% greens.

Today's smoothie recipe for you - which is so delicious I'll be making it again for sure. It's just a little bit sweet, and a lot creamy.

2 frozen bananas
1 large kiwi
1 small avocado
2 cups spinach
2.5 cups water

We're loving it!

I've found a new sort of green thumb!

  3. Hi there, I just stumbled upon your blog, I am enjoying a lovely morning over a green smoothie, reading through your past months of blogging.

I did not know about the green smoothie challenge, but I have been making green smoothies every morning for quite some time now. I love them! I love that I don't have to think about breakfast too much - just throw together some fruit and greens and drink away. I usually make a big jug full which keeps me going all day, unless Beloved desires to share (oh happy day - he is eating healthy!).

The best thing about smoothies is that they take away my cravings for other less than healthy snacks. This is such a relief! I hate being a slave to my cravings.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and let you know that I love your blog and will be reading.

    Take care

  4. Thank you Sharon! We're still enjoying green smoothies here - at least we were until last week when my blender fell to the ground and broke.

I'm using it as an excuse to upgrade to a vitamix. Hopefully in the next week or so.

Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the 'net. :)
