WIP Wednesday

Last year, when The Little was just starting to learn to walk really well we decided to forgo our usual Christmas Tree with ornaments we've collected over the years in lieu of a natural (and mostly edible) tree. In addition to walking - he had a propensity to stick everything, EVERYTHING in his mouth. We made applesauce cinnamon ornaments, dehydrated citrus slices so that they looked like stained glass through the shimmer of the tree lights, and strung Cheerio/cranberry garland.

It truly was my favorite tree we've ever done - so much so, that we've decided to do the same thing again this year. And so, Christmas crafting is in full swing. We've been making needle felted acorn ornaments, and attempting beeswax ornaments. (How those will turn out I have no idea. I'm a little scared.)







We pick up our beeswax from this wonderful beekeeping supply store in Oregon,
Rhul Bee Supply. These pictures didn't turn out as well as I would have liked, but we're having a very overcast day here in the Pacific Northwest and my camera protesteth.




What's going on your tree this year? And if you don't do a tree, what do you do to prepare your home for the holiday season?

    Those acorn ornaments are SO cute! I can't wait to see how the beeswax ornaments turn out. We have multiple trees here. As a kid, I had an undying devotion to the notion that when I was an adult I would have a tree with only blue lights and silver glass balls. So we do. And we have a Christmas tree grown on a local farm that we put ornaments that have been collected since my childhood with the addition of an ornaments for each of our kids each year (that they'll take with them when they leave home). This year, I also want to have another smaller tree with only homemade ornaments. My hubby swears that before the kids leave home, we'll have a tree in every room. I'm ok with that. ;)

    I love your tree last year and can't wait to see this years! Love the beeswax ornaments. What a great idea! We've been making everything else out of eeswax, why not ornaments too!! :) Thank you, too for the info on where you get your beeswax. I'll check them out!

    I put that in there especially for you Nicole. They can't be that far away from you I don't think. 1 lb blocks are $5.95. They are a wealth of beeswax and beekeeping information. We're planning on getting a mason bee house from them next spring. :)

    am in love with your inventive nature last year. an editable tree! you are so wise!
    mmm, beeswax. we too are making ornaments out of beeswax. i hope to string popcorn! we are making a felt garland from recycled sweaters.
    i am constantly thinking of ornament ideas and ways we can decorate our tree.
    love the acorns!
