Leavenworth Bound

When Super Hubby and I were first married and living a different part of the world than we do now, we had a tradition of attending a nearby Bavarian Oktoberfest each year. I have such wonderful memories of those days. Crisp, cool nights, a quaint bed and breakfast, Congo lines with darling old men in lederhosen who had imbibed a few too many.

Since The Little came along, we've not had the opportunity to attend an Oktoberfest celebration until this weekend, when we were invited up to celebrate my cousin's 40th birthday party. Leavenworth, Washington isn't exactly right next door so we decided to make a mini vacation out of the trip. We kenneled the dogs, loaded everything in the car and took our time getting to our destination. One of the first places we stopped was in Maryhill, Washington to visit the outdoor sculpture museum complete with resident peacocks and Washington's own concrete Stonehenge - a memorial to soldiers and sailors lost in World War I.

After several more stretching and snack time stops we finally reached our home base of Wenatchee, Washington - about a twenty minute drive from where all the birthday celebrations were to take place in Leavenworth. Leavenworth is a quaint town located in central Washington. During the day we took The Little into Leavenworth to play in the bounce houses and to get a feel for the daytime festivities.

After a full morning in this adorable Bavarian village, we took The Little back to Wenatchee to hang out with his cousins for the evening so that we, the "adults" could load into a limousine and head back to Leavenworth to partake in a little adult beverage. I'll spare you the gory details and photos. The pictures became blurry as the evening progressed, but here is a great picture of all the kids enjoying the limo and a trip around the block before the adults left.

And finally, one of me.

Yours in celebrating the month of Oktober!

Simple Mama
