Feed the Birds, Tuppence a Bag

The Little loves birds, big and small. Chickens, ducks, robins. You name the bird and he loves them. Yesterday we took time out of our day to pay the pond a visit and feed the ducks some rolled oats - a special treat for The Little and the ducks alike. So excited was he to share his oats with the ducks that we came close a few times to him tumbling into the water when his throwing of the oats became too exuberant. I had him sit quietly on the bank of the pond to avoid any potential disasters. On our walk back we found a few natural treasures to bring home - a wonderful walking stick and some dried flower pods of some sort - any clues as to what they are? We have no idea.

Early each day to the steps of Saint Paul's
The little old bird woman comes
In her own special way to the people she call,
"Come, buy my bags full of crumbs;
Come feed the little birds,
Show them you care
And you'll be glad if you do
Their young ones are hungry
Their nests are so bare
All it takes is tuppence from you
Feed the birds, tuppence a bag
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag
Feed the birds," that's what she cries
While overhead, her birds fill the skies

All around the cathedral the saints and apostles
Look down as she sells her wares
Although you can't see it,
You know they are smiling
Each time someone shows that he cares

Though her words are simple and few
Listen, listen, she's calling to you
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag"
- Mary Poppins
