I'd be interested to know what you think of "The Backyard Homestead". I've looked into that book, but our libraries don't carry it here and I hate to buy a book unless I know it's worth it.
Both my husband and I like it. You could find most of the information online, I suppose - but it's convenient to have it all in one spot. :) You should head to the bookstore and sit down with it for a bit if you're unsure. Enjoy a cup of tea and browse through it.
You could write down the topics that interest you and then find other books that go into more detail. It covers a lot of material, but a truly serious backyard homesteader will probably want more detailed information.
Thanks! I'll have to look into it next time I'm near a bookstore. Enjoy your reading! By the way, when I'm looking for light frou-frou reads I usually go to books for a younger audience. I have really enjoyed some of Madeleine L'Engle's work and if you can find a good edition of Peter Pan that is fairly close to the original play that is also a charming read. Hope you find something that suits you!
I like most of the books written by Elizabeth Berg, except the ones about the 13yo in Texas. "Talk Before Sleep" and "Open House" were two of my favorites. "Water for Elephants" is awesome. Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Weiner are two more quick and easy authors. I just started "The Monk Downstairs" and am enjoying it so far.
I want to get The Backyard Homstead. I flipped through that one not long ago in Boone, NC and it looks great. I don't know about frou-frou, but I really like Silas House for some good fiction. You should check him out. :)
